涼をもとめて乗鞍へ（8/29）
暦の上では秋だというのに暑い。主人達は涼をもとめて乗鞍に出かけた。一ノ瀬園地(1480m)での気温は28度、マツムシソウ(Scabiosa japonica)の群落が迎えてくれた。三本滝(1800m) での気温は24度、エゾリンドウ(Gentiana triflora var. japonica)・コオニユリ (Lilium lancifolium)・ワレモコウ(Sanguisorba officinalis)・アキノキリンソウ（Solidago virgaurea var. asiatica）が迎えてくれた。松本の最高気温は35.9度であった。

For refreshing coolness to Mt.Norikura
Now it is fall on the calendar. Although it is abnormally hot. My masters went to Mt. Norikura for cool air. The temperature of Ichinose (1480m) was 28 degrees. They saw a lot of flowers of the Scabiosa japonica. The temperature of Sannbonndaki (1800m) was 24 degrees. There were many kind of flowers; Gentiana triflora var. japonica, Sanguisorba officinalis, Lilium lancifolium et al. The highest temperature of Matsumoto was 35.9 degrees.
追記）8/30に開催予定であった自転車レースとしては国内最高所を走る大会乗鞍ヒルクライム2020 (全長20,5km,標高差1260m)は新型コロナウイルスのため中止となった。

北アルプスからの便り
“羨ましいかぎりだ”と我猫ジローの主人は言った。主人の弟A.Hは健脚である。北アルプスの山であればコースタイムの半分以下の時間で踏破する。登山シーズンが始まっても自粛していたがお盆が過ぎ登山者が減ったことから燕岳に登ってきたという。密を避けるため朝3時から登ったと言う。早朝の陽を浴びてくつろぐ雷鳥の親子の様子を写メールしてきた。

Even if a mountain climbing season began, he stayed at home. The Bon Festival passed, and the number of mountaineer decreased. Therefore he climbed Tsubakurodake. He started to climb in order to avoid meeting with mountaineers from 3:00 a.m. There was no one. He mailed photographs of parent and children of the rock ptarmigan.

美ヶ原高原−涼を求めて
今年は豪雨そして酷暑。今までに経験したことがない異常とも思われる天候が続いている（8月17日には浜松市で国内史上最高気温と並ぶ41.1度を観測した）。連日の暑さに涼を求めて美ヶ原高原（海抜2000m）に登った．11：00頃霧が立ち籠める駐車場に着いた．第1駐車場はほぼ満杯、第２駐車場は3割程度だった．外気温は22度と快適な温度であった。遅くから登り始めたためか、山頂までの登りでは数人に会っただけだった．広い山頂には2,3人から数人のグループが点在していた．合わせれば結構な人出だ．山頂に着く頃には霧がはれ日当たりでは30度を超す暑さだった．花とトンボと蝶を楽しんだ．

Utukushigahara-highland -In pursuit of the cool air-
The climate in Japan has become almost subtropical in recent years. Japan had a very heavy rainy season this year. After the rainy season, the extremely hot days continue for a long time. My masters climbed up to Utukushigahara-highland (2000m) in pursuit of the cool air. Under the direct rays of the sun, the temperature was more than 30 degrees. They enjoyed flowers, butterflies and dragonflies.

静かなお盆 2020
今年のお盆は実に静かだった．孫や甥っ子、姪っ子がベランダのプールではしゃぐことも花火に興じることもなかった．住職からは玄関先で立ったまま読経するので玄関の上がり口に祭壇をつくるように言われた．新型コロナにより二人だけのお盆であった．

Obon (returning ancestral spirits) in the stillness, 2020
My masters conducted the Obon festival themselves. It was done in the stillness. Grandchildren, nephews and nieces did not come to their house this year. They did pool play in the daytime at their veranda and had fun of fireworks at night last year. So it was very quiet.
The chief priest said, “ I will chanted sutra with standing at the door to keep social distance”. So my masters made the altar in the main entrance.
Obon: It is a traditional Japanese event and the time of year when the souls of ancesters come back to visit us. When they visit, they hurries horseback. They return on cows slowly. In Shinshu, Kamba (the white birch bark) was burned to make both Mukaebi and Okuribi.
